Covered 6 is proud to offer a Cyber Security training program in the New York area that was designed to serve transitioning U.S. Military Veterans and Civilian Professionals.
As part of this unique program, Covered 6 is offering a certified 5 week, 200 hour course, that has been approved to operate by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education and certified by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. Moreover, Covered 6 was awarded the National Program Standard for this course by the U.S. Department of Labor. This course includes academic instruction which combines in-classroom, scenario based, hands-on and interactive training methodologies. Several certifications can be earned upon successfully completing the course and the exams.
Upon graduating from the CST course, students will have had instruction to prepare them to take the CompTIA certification exams for A+, Network+, and Security+. Additionally, the students will receive professional and career development, actual hands-on training and experience with related devices, computers and networks as well as actual war-gaming, as both, Blue Team (Computer Network Defense) and Red Team (Computer Network Attack). Successful completion of the program positions students well to seek the numerous cybersecurity jobs in the New York area.
There are also opportunities to work for an industry approved Apprenticeship employer, ideally in the first year, focusing on general knowledge in IT systems and networks, during which the student will have an opportunity to take the Network+ and Security+ exams. During the final year, the Covered 6 CST can specialize in a particular field and work towards obtaining additional certifications such as CompTIA’s PenTest+ and/or CySA+.
Our instructor, Lee McWhorter, has been involved in the IT revolution since its early days and has more than 30 years of industry experience. He is a highly sought-after professional who first learned about identifying weaknesses in computer networks, systems, and software when Internet access was achieved using just a modem. Lee currently holds an MBA and over 20 industry certifications (including all of CompTIA’s current certifications) in such areas as general IT, System Administration, Networking, Software Development, Linux, IoT, and Cyber Security. He is particularly proud of the fact that he became one of the first 400 people in the world to earn the PenTest+ certification when he successfully passed the beta version of that exam in 2018. Lee has taught for numerous private universities, public colleges, commercial training firms, and non-profit organizations. Additionally, he has worked closely for CompTIA and the CompTIA Instructor Network as a Speaker, SME, and Instructor for several years. He also owns a successful technology services company and continuously works to improve his craft as a subject matter expert.
